so the trailer's finally been released for Japan's upcoming classic Godzilla-suit film (i wont post the link to the trailer cus you've all been sending me the link and im pretty sure you've all seen it by now)

I gotta admit I'm still somewhat skeptical about what they do with Godzilla. That being said .. I also appreciate the amount of work it looks like they're putting into it. It's with this contradiction that I hope they turn it into something great.

Now what I mean by that is I respect the amount of time and work it takes for them to put together a new "classic styled" Godzilla movie with miniatures, suits, special effects, and all the basic stuff that made the classics so fun to watch. It's very hard for a movie like that to be made especially in the modern era where people are no longer surprised by the effects of a rubber suit, so they do what they can to step up their game and not be pushed aside by expensive Hollywood magic. For what its worth i think Godzilla:Final Wars was a bit silly, but it was full of fast paced adrenaline and the kaiju fights felt more fun than usual, and for its time it had just the right amount of live action and special effects. But now it's 2016, and the producers have to take it a little bit further in order to work.

From the looks of things it seems like they know what they're doing. I heard somewhere that they got the help of the people who worked on the live action Attack on Titan films for the special effects. I know the films were somewhat of a disappointment to the fandom, I think they could have worked but they were just executed badly and thats why they weren't so good. Perhaps they were testing out their CGI/Costume skills on that film first and then perfected it when it came to Godzilla's new film. I've noticed that there are a couple shots where it seems Godzilla is green-screened into a larger environment, and from the looks of it there are no miniatures as of yet. Another thing i've noticed is that they edited things in a way that even the rubber suit looks like it can fit into an actual 3D city environment, not just in a matter of scaling it up on a green screen, but it ACTUALLY does look like the rubber suit itself is literally walking around in a real city environment. Idk how they did it but they seem to have stepped up their game, and they're doing everything they can to make a giant rubber suit feel more real than ever before, and I'm sure they will do great things with that.

Another thing worth mentioning is that Godzilla's new design looks rather hellish. I have no problem with Godzilla looking scary and having scary teeth and scary eyes and red marks all over, i think its kinda cool. What i am concerned with is what they choose to do with that. The producers said they wanted to go back to the scary roots of Godzilla films, where it would feel like the angry souls of the victims lost in the WWII bombings incarnated into the body of a large angry mutated monster. I have no problem with the significance of that, but i do feel like there is a chance that Godzilla will be made into more of an evil antagonist that way. I dont mind Godzilla getting revenge on someone who screwed him over, but I have a feeling that they might treat Godzilla as someone who's only out for revenge, destroying things with no purpose, being impossible to kill and laughing at the futile attempts of humanity to destroy him, and then relish in the suffering of the people he kills. That kind of thinking is not what Godzilla is. Godzilla is more of a giant ancient creature who's so big and powerful that it takes a lot more than a nuclear bomb to push him to the edge. Humanity should have little to no influence on him, even if they do make him angry, his presence alone in our cities would be punishment enough that we learn our lesson, pick up the pieces and move on. This Godzilla looks as if the balance of nature will not be enough for him, he seems as if he lives for torture and pain and agony and that's not what I want Godzilla to be about. That kind of thinking is similar to a 14 year old boy who thinks he's been put through so much crap that he must exact his revenge on everyone who ever screwed him over, and even then he'll never be satisfied until everyone is unhappy like him.

Godzilla does NOT think like a 14 year old boy.

Godzilla is a colossal kaiju with bigger things to worry about, bigger fish to fry, and no time to worry about a bunch of ants. I dont mind him stomping in the streets cus people deserve it, but i just dont want Godzilla to spend ALL his time punishing humanity when he could be out focusing on bigger problems. Nobody wants to see a big strong bodybuilder spend a whole movie squishing ants, and i certainly dont wanna see Godzilla as a maniacal bloodthirsty beast wasting his time on humanity when he could be unleashing his fury on other threats around the world.

thats just me. if you guys know more that might settle these thoughts (or if you wanna have a decent civil conversation about it) lemme know

that is all :iconwhatthefuboomplz:
